It is hard to imagine our drug policy being any worse, but Donald Trump can find a way.

The headline was so insane, I had to go research it to make sure it was not “fake news”.
“President exploring the death penalty for drug dealers.”
Like the heads of Phizer, and other big pharma? Walgreens and CVS? Those are the people who manufacture and distribute these drugs right?
Is he going to execute the US military that guards the opium crop in Afghanistan?
Will he hang the executives at Phillip Morris or Anhueiser Busch? Tobbacco and Alcohol kill vastly more than opiates, so it makes more sense.
Will he instruct Jeff Sessions to set up firing squads for pot dealers? Nobody has ever died from it, but it is a “gateway” right?
People who overdose are already dying, after they paid money for the drugs, and then took the drugs themselves. They need treatment, not more jails.
Most street level drug dealers of opiates are merely addicts trying to pay for the maintenance of their addiction. If you really want them dead, and have no empathy for them, they will kill themselves eventually. It won’t involve more infringements on civil liberties or increased taxes to pay for it.
The real drug dealers mentioned above will never pay the price, beyond their government licensing fees. Nearly all the opiates enter the marketplace through government licensed pharma companies, doctors, and pharmacies.
90% of the world’s heroin supply comes from opium fields guarded by the US military for a perceived strategic advantage.
We make deals to protect some Mexican cartels over others, and allow them to manufacture fentanyl in illegal labs that end up in the heroin supply, resulting in regular waves of death in cities around the U.S.
If Trump was really looking for a scapegoat regarding the opiate epidemic, he should meet with the US Congress, and they should all find a really big mirror.
Donald Trump has said many things, but has done almost none of them.
His first budget included 1 trillion dollars in debt spending, with a short, temporary tax cut.
He abandoned his pro-life stance and re-funded Planned Parenthood.
Instead of a wall, he offerred amnesty to nearly 2 million, which the Democrats rejected because they want more, and he will give it to them.
Trump was supposedly reformed from his former leftist attitude towards guns. Yet he is now championing draconian gun control measures that will eventually ban all semi-auto firearms in the US.
We can only hope this is another one of his hypocritical moments, and he will keep up his usual pattern, and not actually do what he says.
In any case, this is the most insane, counterproductive, and hypocritical idea he has ever come up with.
Donald Trump has officially fulfilled H.L. Mencken’s famous prophecy.
“On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.”
